Soda Jerk

She was probationary, a ‘soda jerk’. She was inept. Interviewed and hired by the Grill manager. I was the assistant manager tasked with the assignment… fire her!

I did.

Corporate transferred this ‘newbie’ manager to this unit a month ago. Some hot shot. Sixty days I worked without a day off. He took every Sunday off.

Family emergency required a quick trip to San Diego and back. Left a note early that morning.

Next day arrived at work.

“Sorry about yesterday, family emergency.”

“You’re fired,” he said!

Next day in the Unemployment queue heard laughing.

Looked up, there she was.
